Youth Participation in Agriculture and Poverty Reduction in Nigeria

With data from 683 systematically selected households, the study employed Heckman two-stage model and propensity score matching method (PSM) to examine impact of youth participation in agriculture as a primary occupation on income poverty Nigeria. The results indicate that gender their determination stay significantly increases probability will participate occupation. In addition, main contributes per capita household has likelihood reduce by 17%. daily wage rate hired labor total farmland owned are variables positively explained income. Poverty was reduced market access, having occupation, agricultural production, monetary value all assets, remain agriculture, square respondents’ age. These imply creating employment for engaging them full-time can increase poverty. However, promotion other secondary occupations, land, access is also vital.
